A cognitive psychologist was interested in the relationship between individuals' sleep quality and their spatial memory accuracy. He used a correlational design to investigate this in a volunteer sample of 40 adult participants.
Each participant completed a 7-day sleep diary to calculate an average sleep quality score. Their spatial memory was then assessed using a computerised virtual-reality (VR) maze environment where they had to locate five hidden targets as quickly as possible.
