Question 54

Diet Type and Cardiovascular Fitness in Amateur Runners

Researchers investigated whether there is an association between diet type and cardiovascular fitness in amateur runners. They sampled 60 participants, categorising them by diet type ('Plant-based' or 'Omnivorous') and their cardiovascular fitness level ('High Fitness' or 'Low Fitness') using a standardised VO2 VO_2\,VO2 max threshold. The raw contingency data is summarised in Table 1.

Table 2: Critical values of Chi-Square (χ2\chi^2χ2) for df=1df = 1df=1

Significance Level (ppp)0.100.050.020.01
Critical value (df=1df = 1df=1)2.713.845.416.63

Using the calculated Chi-square value of χ2=4.29\chi^2 = 4.29χ2=4.29, write a significance statement for the analysis performed on this data.
