An educational psychologist wanted to investigate how revision schedules affect pre-exam anxiety in A-level students. She conducted an independent groups experiment where one group of students utilized a 'spaced retrieval' schedule (short study blocks spread over several weeks). A different group of students utilized a 'massed cramming' schedule (continuous study the night before the exam). Just prior to entering the exam hall, participants were asked to rate their current anxiety levels on a scale of 1 ('completely relaxed') to 10 ('extremely anxious').
