Research suggests that 'nudging' people towards desirable behaviors can be highly effective without restricting their choices. To investigate this, a psychologist conducted an observational study monitoring people's use of hand-sanitizer dispensers in a local community center's main lobby. They compared two setups situated in the same lobby: one brightly colored hand-sanitizer dispenser with painted green footprints on the floor leading up to it, and another standard white dispenser mounted on the wall without footprints.
