An environmental psychologist conducted a study to investigate if diffusing peppermint essential oil in a testing room improves spatial memory recall compared to diffusing lavender essential oil. An independent measures design was used with 16 participants. Eight of the participants performed a spatial recall test while exposed to a peppermint scent, while the other eight performed the same test in a room with a lavender scent. All participants completed a spatial memory quiz with a maximum score of 40.
