Research suggests that environmental exposure can influence overall psychological state. A psychologist investigated whether a short nature walk affects subjective wellbeing compared to a treadmill walk inside a gym. Using an independent measures design, they compared the self-reported wellbeing scores (on a scale of 0 to 60, where 0 = 'extremely low wellbeing' and 60 = 'extremely high wellbeing') of participants who completed a 10-minute nature walk with those who completed a 10-minute treadmill walk. The collected data and corresponding ranks are presented in the table below.
| Nature Walk Group | Treadmill Walk Group | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| Wellbeing Rating | Rank | Wellbeing Rating | Rank |
| 59 | 16 | 14 | 1 |
