A psychologist investigated how a model's facial expression in a profile picture affects perceived trustworthiness. Using an independent measures design, one group of participants rated the trustworthiness of a model who was smiling, while a second group rated the exact same model with a neutral expression.
Ratings were on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 = 'not trustworthy at all', 10 = 'extremely trustworthy'). The data collected is presented in the table below.
