How accurately do resident doctors perceive their own clinical empathy compared to how their patients perceive them? To investigate this, a researcher asked eight resident doctors at a teaching hospital to participate in a study. Each doctor rated their own level of clinical empathy on a scale of 1 ('not empathetic at all') to 100 ('extremely empathetic'). One patient who had been treated by each doctor was then asked to rate that doctor's empathy using the same 1 to 100 scale. The results are presented in the table below.
