Research suggests that prominent labeling and eco-friendly packaging can nudge consumers towards making more sustainable purchasing decisions. To investigate this, an environmental psychologist conducted a covert observation study in a local supermarket. She monitored customers' selections of laundry detergent from two side-by-side displays during a busy Saturday morning (9:00 am to 11:00 am).
The psychologist recorded the choices made by younger shoppers (estimated under 30 years old) and older shoppers (estimated 30 years old and over). The data collected is shown in the table below:
| Younger Shoppers (<30) | Older Shoppers (≥30\ge 30≥30) | |
|---|---|---|
| Cardboard Pouches (Display X) | 22 | 14 |
| Standard Plastic Bottles (Display Y) | 9 | 19 |
