Sleep deprivation is a common issue that can impact cognitive performance and daily functioning. Psychologists interested in the cognitive effects of sleep investigated the correlation between sleep duration and attentional focus. They recruited a group of ten volunteers to record their average sleep duration per night (in hours) over a week, and then measured the number of concentration lapses each participant made during a standardized 30-minute laboratory task. The data obtained is presented in the table below.
| Participant | Average daily sleep duration (hours) | Number of concentration lapses |
|---|---|---|
| P | 8.5 | 2 |
| Q | 5.0 | 14 |
| R | 7.0 | 8 |
| S | 4.5 | 18 |
| T | 6.0 | 11 |
| U | 9.0 | 1 |
| V | 5.5 | 15 |
| W | 8.0 | 5 |
| X | 6.5 | 9 |
| Y | 7.5 | 6 |
