An educational psychologist conducted a study to investigate whether listening to instrumental classical music versus lyrical pop music during study sessions affects reading comprehension performance in teenagers. An independent measures design was used, testing a small sample of 12 participants. Half of the participants listened to instrumental classical music while completing a reading comprehension test, while the other half listened to lyrical pop music. All other environment conditions were kept constant. The data obtained from the study is presented in the table below.
