In a 2022 study on eyewitness reliability, researchers investigated how post-event misinformation affects memory of a drone collision. Participants watched a 15-second video clip of a drone colliding with a park bench. One group of participants was asked, "How fast was the drone travelling when it smashed into the bench?" while another group was asked, "How fast was the drone travelling when it contacted the bench?" A week later, participants were asked if they remembered seeing any broken glass at the scene (there was none). Those who heard the word "smashed" were significantly more likely to falsely report seeing broken glass.
