Dylan and Maya have carried out research into conformity as part of their A-level Psychology course. They investigated whether male or female students are more likely to conform to a majority peer opinion. They approached the first 40 male and 40 female students sitting in the college cafeteria during morning break and asked them to complete a hypothetical scenario questionnaire. Each student who took part was given a scenario about whether or not they would agree with an obviously incorrect group consensus on a simple general knowledge task.
Table 1 shows the number of male and female students who reported they would or would not conform to the group consensus.
