In developmental psychology, we want to know if attachment is universal (the same everywhere) or culturally specific (shaped by local child-rearing traditions). To find out, Marinus van IJzendoorn and Pieter Kroonenberg (1988) conducted a groundbreaking study. Instead of running a new experiment, they collected existing global research that used Mary Ainsworth's Strange Situation.
