A cognitive neuroscientist is investigating whether a new spatial-reasoning mobile application improves mental rotation skills. She recruits 40 undergraduate students.
The students are paired up based on their baseline score on an initial spatial-reasoning pre-test, so that the two students in each pair have highly similar initial scores.
From each pair, one student is randomly assigned to Group A (using the new spatial-reasoning application for 20 minutes daily for two weeks) and the other is assigned to Group B (playing a standard puzzle game for the same duration). After two weeks, all participants are re-tested.
