What is a parasocial relationship?

A parasocial relationship is a one-sided psychological bond with a media figure such as a celebrity, influencer, sportsperson, or fictional character. The fan may feel genuine closeness, but the celebrity does not know them personally, so the bond lacks reciprocity.
