An experimental psychologist investigated learning behaviour using a rat in a specialized chamber. Throughout the trial, a continuous, mildly unpleasant high-pitched tone was emitted. If the rat pressed a small metal bar, the tone stopped immediately for 60 seconds. Initially, the rat pressed the bar by chance, but over several sessions, the time taken for the rat to press the bar after the tone started decreased significantly.
