Question 8

Fiona and George both suffer from a severe fear of water (aquaphobia).

Fiona says she was always destined to have this phobia because her biological mother and grandmother both had severe anxiety disorders, meaning she was born with an overactive fight-or-flight response.

George says it was inevitable that he would develop this fear because whenever he went near the swimming pool as a young child, his parents would scream in panic and pull him away, rewarding his avoidance with comforting treats.

Use your knowledge of determinism to explain Fiona's and George's comments.
