Question 15

A commuter is being questioned by a British Transport Police officer about an aggressive robbery they witnessed at a busy train station during rush hour. The incident ended with a physical struggle on the platform. A screwdriver was later recovered by officers near the ticket barrier.

‘Did you see the screwdriver the suspect was holding?’ asked the officer.

‘I’m not sure there was a screwdriver – wait, yes, I suppose there must have been,’ replied the commuter. ‘I felt absolutely terrified when the scuffle broke out, and my colleagues and I have been posting about it in our work group chat ever since, so now I’m not completely sure what I actually saw.’

Discuss research into two or more factors that affect the reliability of eyewitness testimony. Refer to the information above in your answer.
