Conversation at a Child Development Workshop

Two parents, Marcus and Samantha, are discussing their experiences in the waiting area of a local family clinic.

Marcus: "My daughter Maya was definitely a 'cupboard love' baby! Whenever she was hungry, she’d scream her head off, and the instant my wife or I fed her, she’d quieten down—which was a massive relief for us. She quickly learned to associate our faces with the comfort of being fed, so she became attached to whoever had the bottle."

Samantha: "I think it’s much more deep-rooted than just feeding. My son seemed born with these adorable little smiles and sounds that practically forced me to pick him up and cuddle him. He developed this single, irreplaceable bond with me first, and I’m convinced that early relationship created a mental map that shapes how he interacts with his friends today."

Discuss the learning theory of attachment and Bowlby's monotropic theory of attachment. Refer to the conversation above in your answer.
