Severe Hoarding Disorder is a psychological condition characterized by an extreme difficulty in discarding or parting with possessions, regardless of their actual value. The severe form of this condition is highly uncommon, affecting only about 0.3% of the general population. Sufferers often experience a highly distorted cognitive state, maintaining a firm belief that every item, including household rubbish, possesses unique emotional significance, which prevents them from achieving a realistic perception of reality and limits self-actualization. This behavior leads to immense personal distress and dangerous living conditions, meaning that individuals are often unable to manage basic daily tasks, maintain employment, or sustain normal social relationships.
