Custodial Sentencing

Custodial Sentencing

Custodial sentencing involves a convicted offender spending time in a prison or closed institution. The legal system uses this for four main aims: Deterrence (putting people off committing crime), Incapacitation (removing them from society to protect the public), Retribution (society enacting 'revenge' for the crime), and Rehabilitation (reforming the offender).
