Item A

Siddharth and Elena are designing an interactive mobile application to help young children learn science concepts.

  • Siddharth: "I want the app to let children experiment freely by dragging and dropping items. When their predicted outcomes don't work out, it will create a conflict in their mind, forcing them to adjust their thinking and create a new mental category for how things work."
  • Elena: "I think we should have an animated guide that gives hints when a child is stuck, and then disappears as they get better. We should also include an online cooperative multiplayer mode so struggling players can play alongside more skilled peers."

Refer to Item A. Use your knowledge of theories of cognitive development to explain the comments made by Siddharth and Elena.
