What a summing amplifier does

What a summing amplifier does

Schematic of an inverting summing amplifier with three input voltages through resistors into a virtual earth junction, grounded non-inverting input, feedback resistor, labelled currents, and output voltage A summing amplifier is an inverting op-amp circuit with several input resistors meeting at the same junction. You can think of it as an inverting amplifier with extra inputs. It combines several input voltages into one output, so it is useful in signal mixing such as audio desks.

Step-by-step lessons on AQA A Level Physics summing amplifier configuration (A-level only). Each one builds up to exam-style questions. Physics is one of the most mathematically demanding A Levels -- at least 40% of the marks require maths skills at Level 2 (GCSE) standard or above, so build calculation and graph-handling fluency alongside the conceptual content from the start.
