The basic idea of MR

Schematic showing hydrogen nuclei aligning with a strong magnetic field, precessing, then being excited by an RF pulse and emitting an RF signal during relaxation An MR scanner mainly detects hydrogen nuclei, which are single protons found in water and fat inside the body. A very strong superconducting magnet produces a magnetic flux density BBB that makes many of these protons align with their spins parallel to the field.
