Circuit schematic of an inverting op-amp amplifier with input resistor, feedback resistor, grounded non-inverting input, virtual-earth junction, and output label

An inverting amplifier uses negative feedback to make an op-amp stable and predictable. The input signal goes through RinR_{\text{in}}Rin to the inverting input, the non-inverting input is grounded, and RfR_fRf feeds part of the output back to the same junction.
