Visualising gravitational fields

Visualising gravitational fields

Field lines comparing a uniform gravitational field with parallel downward arrows and a radial gravitational field around a planet with arrows toward the centre and lines spreading out with distance

A gravitational field is a region where a mass experiences an attractive non-contact force. Because the field itself is invisible, we draw field lines to show what would happen to a small test mass.
