Analogue and digital signals

Comparison of a smooth analogue waveform and a sampled, quantised digital waveform with binary labels An analogue signal can take any value in a continuous range, so its waveform is smooth. A microphone output voltage is analogue because the voltage changes continuously as the sound pressure changes.
