Question 11

In this question use g=9.8g = 9.8g=9.8 m s−2^{-2}−2.

A non-uniform rod AB AB\,AB has length 4 m and mass M M\,M kg. Its centre of mass is a distance d d\,d m from AAA. The rod rests horizontally on two supports at C C\,C and DDD, where AC=0.5AC = 0.5AC=0.5 m and AD=3AD = 3AD=3 m.

When a particle of mass 33 kg is attached to the rod at AAA, the rod is on the point of tilting about CCC.

When instead a particle of mass 21 kg is attached to the rod at BBB, the rod is on the point of tilting about DDD.

Find the value of M M\,M and the value of ddd.
