Question 59

In this question use g=9.8g = 9.8g=9.8 m s−2^{-2}−2.

A uniform rod ABABAB, of length 2 m and mass 3 kg, is smoothly hinged to a vertical wall at AAA.

The rod is held in equilibrium in a horizontal position by a light inextensible string BCBCBC, where C C\,C is a point on the wall vertically above A A\,A with AC=1.5AC = 1.5AC=1.5 m.

Figure for question 5

a.

Find the tension in the string BCBCBC.

[3]
b.

Find the magnitude and direction of the force exerted on the rod at AAA.
