Question 31

In this question use g=9.8g = 9.8g=9.8 m s−2^{-2}−2.

A block A A\,A of mass 3 kg lies on a rough horizontal table. The coefficient of friction between A A\,A and the table is 0.2.

A A\,A is connected by a light inextensible string, which passes over a smooth pulley fixed at the edge of the table, to a particle B B\,B of mass 2 kg hanging freely. The part of the string between A A\,A and the pulley is horizontal.

Figure for question 2

The system is released from rest.

a.

Find the acceleration of the system.

[4]
b.

Find the tension in the string.
