Question 14

The Digitalization of Estonia

Following its independence, Estonia embarked on a rapid digital transformation, often referred to as 'e-Estonia'. In the mid-1990s, the traditional manufacturing and heavy industry sectors dominated the economy, accounting for approximately 35% of GDP, while the digital and software services sector was negligible at less than 5%. By 2024, widespread internet access and government initiatives led to the digital technology sector contributing over 30% of GDP, while traditional manufacturing's share fell to around 15%.

Draw a Production Possibility Curve (PPC) diagram to illustrate this transition, showing the reallocation of resources from the traditional manufacturing sector to the digital technology sector.
