Classifying goods

Classifying goods

Matrix classifying goods by excludability and rivalry, with public goods, club goods, common resources, and private goods labelled in four quadrants

Economists classify goods by asking two questions: can non-payers be excluded, and does one person's use reduce availability for others? This matters because prices work best when sellers can charge users and one person's use reduces availability for others.
