Reading an exchange rate

Reading an exchange rate

An exchange rate is the price of one currency in terms of another. If £1 buys 1.25 US dollars, that is the price of the pound in dollars. If £1 later buys more foreign currency, sterling has appreciated; if it buys less, sterling has depreciated.
