This comes alongside existing chemical market volatility, where critical shortages of lithium and cobalt have significantly inflated battery pack production costs across the sector.
Nonetheless, industry analysts point out that massive gigafactories allow consolidated battery producers to exploit major economies of scale. This scale provides the massive capital and capacity necessary to fund high-risk research and development into next-generation solid-state chemistry, as well as securing long-term supply agreements.
