Ionic Bonding and Giant Lattices

Ionic bonding is the strong electrostatic attraction between oppositely charged ions. This type of bonding occurs when metal atoms transfer outer-shell electrons to non-metal atoms. Metals lose electrons to form positive cations, while non-metals gain electrons to form negative anions.
