What counts as a transition element?

The d-block is the central block of the Periodic Table where electrons are added to a d sub-shell. A transition element is defined more strictly: it must form at least one ion with a partially filled d sub-shell.

Chemistry of the d-block transition metals Lesson

  1. A Level
  2. /Chemistry
  3. /Chemistry of the d-block transition metals

Step-by-step lessons covering Eduqas A Level Chemistry Chemistry of the d-block transition metals for A Level Chemistry. Each lesson works through exam-style questions in Component 1, Component 2 and Component 3 format. Build confidence with atomic structure, bonding and moles calculations early on, since these underpin the more demanding organic mechanisms, equilibrium and practical-analysis topics that dominate Year 2.
