VNTRs create unique DNA profiles

Genetic fingerprinting compares variable number tandem repeats, or VNTRs, which are short, non-coding DNA sequences repeated back-to-back. Different people can have different numbers of repeats at the same locus, so the DNA fragments containing those loci can have different lengths.
