Richness, evenness and biodiversity

Richness, evenness and biodiversity

Two community samples with the same four plant species, showing equal abundances in Community A and dominance by daisies in Community B, labelled with richness and evenness

A habitat is the place where an organism lives, and a community is all the populations of different species living and interacting there at the same time. Biodiversity is the variety of living organisms in an area, and you should always state the scale, such as one pond, one field, or the whole Earth.
